Similarities
Hole cards and Community cards. Both types of poker use five community cards. Players use these cards in combination with their hole card to build the best possible hand.
Order of betting or community card dealing Both poker types include rounds before and after a flop (when three community cards are dealt), then the turn (when the fourth card is dealt), and finally the river (when fifth card is dealt). If necessary, there is a showdown.
There are many differences
There are four hole cards. In Omaha poker, players are dealt four holes cards. This is twice the number that they get in Texas Holdem.
Make-up for the best hand in Omaha poker. A player’s best Omaha hand must include two of their hole cards as well as three of the community cards. Texas Holdem players can create their best hand by using either one, two, or all of their hole card in conjunction with the community.
Omaha poker: the goal
Omaha poker players are aiming to win as many hands as possible, and making the best decisions when playing each hand.
It is not enough to have the best poker hand to determine the outcome of a hand in the showdown (when the players reveal their cards at end of betting), nor does it guarantee victory.
You must manage how you present your hand to others if you are to win a hand. If you want other players to bet, you need to convince them to keep doing so.
