Once the payout spout has stopped making an audible sound, the player would need to push the monkey’s paw further into the receptacle. Once the machine reels had spun and hit a winning combo, there was nothing that could stop the coins flowing freely. This resulted in a player receiving a much larger payout than they intended.

Shaved and Stringed Coins

A popular cheating technique was the shaved-and-stringed coin trick. A player would take the coin and file it to allow it to pass through the machine. The coin was attached with a string.
