Aqueduct Racetrack

 Aqueduct Racetrack

Aqueduct racetrack is a Thoroughbred horse-racing facility and casino located in Queens' South Ozone Park, New York City. [1] Aqueduct racetrack is located in New York City. Its racing meets usually take place between late October/earlyNovember and April. It is situated adjacent to Resorts World New York City.

The track itself is composed of three courses. The main track (dirt), measures 1+1/8 mile (1.8 km). The main track is home to two courses, the 1 mile (1.6km) Main Turf Course and an Inner Turf Course that measure 7.065 feet (1.421 km). There are 17,000 seats and 40,000 total capacity. [3] The New York Racing Association headquarters is housed in the facility.

Histories

Aqueduct Racetrack is situated near the Brooklyn Waterworks' former conduit, which brought water from Eastern Long Island to Ridgewood Reservoir. The Queens County Jockey Club opened it on September 27, 1894. [4][5] Aqueduct, the track's original name, was chosen after Ridgewood Aqueduct. [6] Prior to the 1941 summer meet, the facility had been expanded and a new clubhouse constructed. [7]

The Greater New York Association, which included Belmont Park, Saratoga Race Course and Jamaica Race Course, took control of Aqueduct in 1955. It decided to make significant upgrades to Aqueduct. Jamaica Race Course would then be sold for housing. [8][9][10] Aqueduct reopened on September 14, 1959. This was after $33million of renovations that were designed by Arthur Froehlich and Associates in Beverly Hills, California. [11][12] At the time, the Equestris Restaurant at the clubhouse was the largest in New York City. [13][14] More renovations were completed in 2001, 2006, 2007 and 2007.

Before 1976, the Inner Dirt Track had been a turf track and was called the Main Turf Course. The current turf course is the Inner Turf Course. After 1975, the Main Turf Course's racing ended, and the grass was removed and the Inner Dirt Track became available for year-round racing. The track was idled from the beginning of November through April 1, 1959. However, the track's use in 1971 saw a reduction in this period to the time just before Christmas and the start of off-track betting in New York City. There was a demand for horse races to be held in the region all year.

Aqueduct currently hosts one annual meeting. It is usually held on the last Wednesday in November until the first Sunday May. The Inner Dirt Track was used for races from the Wednesday following Thanksgiving through just before Wood Memorial in recent times. Aqueduct hosted a summer meeting from mid-June until late July before 1977. The Wood Memorial marquee race at Aqueduct is what culminates the winter meeting. The winter meet starts with major races like the Remsen or Cigar Mile. The Jockey Club Gold Cup was a popular race there from 1958 to 1974. The most notable race at the track was the marathon 2+1/4 (3.6km) Display Handicap. It was last run in 1990.

Belmont Park was home to the Belmont Stakes from 1963 to 1967. However, Belmont Park's races were also run at Aqueduct during construction of Belmont Park's grandstand. The track was host to the second annual Breeders Cup on November 2, 1985. [15]

Aqueduct hosted the first, and still the only, triple dead heat that resulted in the victory in a stakes-race race. Brownie, Bossuet and Wait A Bit all crossed the finish line in the 1944 Carter Handicap. [16] A rare event occurred on April 8, 2006 at Aqueduct. It was during an eleven-race program that included the Wood Memorial Stakes. Saint Anddan died for Place in Race 5, Naragansett died for Show in Rac 6, and Megatrend and Karakorum Tuxedo died for Win in Race 10.how to win at the race track
